ZINC CELEBRATES SUCCESS WITH TOP BUSINESS AWARD

The phenomenal growth of Australian promotional marketing company Zinc Group Pty Ltd has awarded them with a winning place in the BRW ANZ Private Business Awards 2009.
Founded in January 2005 by Peter Cleary, Romney Jones, Michael Kranz and Rick Gawel the privately owned company beat stiff competition from Aussie Farmers Direct, Grill’d and Skybridge (Australia) Pty Ltd to be named the “fastest growing private business of the year with a turnover up to and including $100 million pa”.
Zinc Group revenues will reach $32 million per annum this year, the company’s fourth full year, a 327 percent growth on last year alone.
Zinc Group has offices in Melbourne, Sydney, London and China and offers a unique bundled service with key capability areas – strategy, technology, creativity, innovation and cost-efficiencies, with expertise in end-to-end promotional campaigns, industrial design, conceptdevelopment, loyalty and digital solutions.
“This award recognises the hard work we have put into Zinc Group, which has grown to plan,” says Zinc CEO Peter Cleary. “We never planned to grow Zinc incrementally and we don’t believe this growth to be typical, particularly given the tight economic climate.”
After identifying their niche, Zinc’s founders took four months to develop a tight business plan before launching the company in 2005. They planned the optimal company and capital structure, developed the physical operating processes and infrastructure required, then invested in the best technology and team to establish real and sustainable advantages.
The key to the company’s success has been its determination to attract and retain the best people.
“You spend too much time at work not to love what you’re doing or the people you work with,” Cleary says. “We started Zinc because we saw that there had to be a better way to do things in an environment that people could enjoy. A job is not something to be endured – it’s important to have some fun.
“Building the right company ensures that we attract and retain the best people. The best people provide the best solutions to clients and this in turn provides for happy clients. Happy clients mean a sustainable, profitable business. We have reversed a traditional corporate mantra that starts with looking after shareholders first, then clients and team members last.”
The results of the BRW ANZ Private Business Awards, announced at a gala dinner last night at Sydney’s Westin Hotel, will be published in the BRW Top 500 Private Companies flagship issue.
